Concrete Sand is a coarse, sharp-feeling sand with particles ranging from fine dust up to roughly 3/8 inch. Its mix of grain sizes packs tightly, which is why masons and concrete crews reach for it.

Handling tip
For a paver bed, rake and screed the sand about an inch thick over a compacted stone base, then lay the pavers without walking on the sand first. Keep the pile covered if rain is expected so the moisture content stays predictable.
Because the grains vary in size, the sand compacts well and does not wash out easily when it is confined. It is not the same as the fine, rounded sand used in sandboxes, so choose a softer sand if bare skin will touch it. Many homeowners pair it with crushed stone underneath for a stable patio.

Got 4 tons of this sand to level the pad for a 24 foot above ground pool. It rakes smooth and packs down firm with a lawn roller and a bit of water, and there were no pebbles or clumps to poke through the liner.
